Course Information for Students
Who is this course for?
An Early Years Educator:
- Plans and supervises child-initiated and adult-led activities which are based around the needs and interests of each individual child
- Supports children to develop numeracy and language skills through games and play
- Has key person responsibility to help ensure each child feels safe and secure
- Observes each child and shapes their learning experience to reflect their observations
- Meets the care needs of the individual child such as feeding, changing nappies and administration of medicine
- Works in partnership with other colleagues, parents and/or carers or other professionals to meet the individual needs of each child
With additional experience, an Early Years Educator can become the manager of an early years setting.
Individuals will undergo all the checks as per the EYFS requirements to ensure their suitability to work with children.
The apprenticeship involves:
- 20% off-the-job training
- Maths and English Level 2
- End-point assessment
Entry Requirements
You need:
- A minimum of Level 1 Maths and English qualifications
- To be contracted for a minimum of 30 hours
- To be working in an environment where an Early Years Educator can gain experience and skills

What is required from the employer in the workplace?
- Full support and training for the apprentice
- Paid time to attend College
- A contract for a minimum for 30 hours per week

Will my apprentice need to come into college?
Yes – to attend theory classes which are on Tuesday.
If the apprentice is not exempt from Functional Skills, they will need to attend via a block week or a few hours every week.
Both are paid as time away from work.
Is there any specialist equipment required?
They will need a laptop to access their e-portfolio.
What progression can my apprentice expect after completion of their apprenticeship?
They can progress to leadership, management and team leading courses.
