Who is this course for?
This is a professional qualification for students wanting a career in the beauty therapy industry. You will be working towards the City & Guilds Diploma in Beauty Therapy – which could be your first step towards a role as a junior beauty therapist within a salon or a health spa.
Entry Requirements
You need to be highly motivated and demonstrate a keen interest in your chosen subject. Offers of a place on the course are dependent on your qualifications and practical aptitude. You will need:
- a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 3-4 including English (grade 4 or above) and Maths (grade 3 or above)
You will have an interview and initial assessment in maths and English and will attend a taster session. Parents and carers are welcome to attend the interview but not the initial assessment. If you are successful, you will be allocated a place to study.
What will you learn?
Mandatory units are:
- Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety
- Promote additional services or products to clients
- Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
- Provide facial skin care treatment
- Enhance the appearance of eyebrows and lashes
- Carry out waxing services
- Provide manicure services
- Provide pedicure services
There is a range of optional units to select from, with guidance from our beauty team.
You will also develop your skills in maths and English, which will support your main programme of study, help your future progression and enhance your life skills.
How will you learn?
This course will be delivered on-site.
What will you need to bring with you?
A kit and uniform are required for the programme. Details will be available from the curriculum staff during your interview.
How will you be assessed?
You will be assessed by a range of methods including practical observation, written tests, assignments and preparing a portfolio of evidence. Maths and English will be assessed through a controlled assessment or final exam.

You can progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy where you will continue to develop your skills in maths and English.
