Course Information for Students
Who is this course for?
The Level 1 Award in Gas Safety Awareness is designed to give learners a basic understanding of key points relating to domestic gas safety, and how to identify devices and features associated with gas safety within domestic properties.
This qualification is for learners aged 16 years and over who are engaged in activities which require them to attend the residential homes of clients or service users as part of their day-to-day job role or for those who may undertake volunteer work. This could be for a variety of reasons including as trade operatives, care workers, social workers, housing officers and maintenance personnel working in or visiting properties. It could also be useful for individuals who would like to raise their own personal awareness of gas safety in the home.
Entry Requirements
Learners are not required to hold any qualifications prior to undertaking this programme.
However, learners are required to have a basic knowledge of numeracy and literacy.
What will you learn?
Learners will complete one unit through which they will develop a basic understanding of key points relating to domestic gas safety, including:
- legislation that applies to residential gas systems
- the Gas Safe Register
- the basic principles of gas combustion
- signs and symptoms of Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning
- how to locate and operate emergency control valves (ECVs)
- how to report gas safety concerns
How will you learn?
This course will be delivered on-site.
What will you need to bring with you?
Nothing is required.
How will you be assessed?
This Level 1 qualification requires the completion of one centre-based knowledge assessment that is administered via a 20-question paper-based multi-choice examination.
Where next?
This qualification does not form part of a suite of qualifications. However, learners can progress to a Level 2 Award in Gas Safety Awareness if this is appropriate to the scope of their job role or would benefit them personally.
