Course Information for Students

This course provides an introduction to health and social care, developing your skills for progression to further learning and ultimately employment.

It is made up of units that provide a broad introduction to working in care as well as specific units which offer a taste of care issues. There is also a focus on key transferable skills. 

All applicants are assessed on an individual basis and an interview is essential.  A GCSE profile of grade 2 is desirable. 

Good attendance, punctuality, self-motivation and a positive attitude to study should be evident from your Record of Achievement.

You will study units such as:

  • self-assessment
  • career progression
  • health and social care needs
  • communication in the care sector

You will also study Functional Skills or GCSEs in English and Maths as well as Employability and Personal Development.

Developing your maths and English skills will support your main study programme, help your future progression and enhance your life skills.  

This course will be delivered on-site.

There is continual assessment using a variety of methods such as written assessments, presentations, displays and practical activities. 

Further Study

You may be able to advance to the BTEC Level 1 in Health and Social Care – subject to good attendance, a good work rate and a positive attitude to study. You can also progress to further training opportunities.
