Who is this course for?
The typical duration for this apprenticeship is three years but this will depend upon the previous experience of the apprentice and their access to opportunities to gain the full range of competence.
The programme leads to a Level 4 qualification in Construction and Built Environment that meets the knowledge requirements of the standard and is approved by the Institution of Civil Engineers as meeting the educational requirements for EngTech MICE.
English and Maths at Level 3 will need to be achieved before taking the End-point Assessment and will be included in the Level 4 qualification.
This apprenticeship will include the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to achieve Technician status with the Institution of Civil Engineers (EngTech MICE). The Technician Professional Review process for EngTech MICE is included in the End-point Assessment process for this apprenticeship and will lead to the designatory letters EngTech MICE and the status of Engineering Technician.
Entry Requirements
You should have a minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths (grade 5 or above), and Science. Your grade should preferably be 6+ (B) for GCSE Maths.
Alternatively, you should have:
- an Intermediate Diploma in the chosen subject to a Merit or Distinction standard, plus GCSE English and Maths (grade 5 or above), with preferably a 6+ (B) grade for GCSE Maths
- a relevant Level 3 qualification, Advanced Apprenticeship or Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard
- five years relevant work experience together with a minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths (grade 5 or above)

The main duties and tasks of a Construction Site Engineering Technician are:
- Dimensional control of construction projects
- Assisting design teams with civil engineering solutions on construction projects
- Supervision of specialist contractors
- Contributing to the control of health and safety on construction projects
- Recording, controlling and reporting of progress on a construction project
- Contributing to the minimisation of the environmental impact of construction projects
- Controlling the quality of works on a construction project
