Seven ESWs, who work across the College supporting students in the classroom, have completed the new Higher Level Teaching Assistants certificate which has been introduced by Derby College.
Some of them are already working in the advanced role and others are planning to apply for promotions in the future.
After a successful pilot programme, the second group of teaching assistants have already started their programme – representing a wide range of primary, secondary and special education schools in the city and county.
Derby College Teacher Training Team Manager Melanie Lanser explained: “Teaching Assistants and Education Support Workers have a vital role in the classroom and this HLTA certificate recognises this specific skills set and pave the way for future career progression.
“The study programme is unique in the county and effectively provides these professionals with the qualifications to match their experience.”
Head of the Roundhouse Sarah Le Good concluded: “We are very proud of the achievements of those who have completed the pilot programme.
“They have embraced the opportunities to further develop their skills to support our students to develop their independence and become work ready.”
