Mature student Kim aims for degree

A mature student is planning to combine animal management training with holistic skills to launch her own equine therapy business.

Kim Leder, 44, believes her qualifications gained at Derby College courses combined with a previous qualification can help her career dreams come to life.

Long Eaton mum of three Kim is trained to level 3 in holistic therapy and has just completed her HND in animal management at Broomfield.

She is going on to the one year top-up to achieve the full degree at Derby College and plans to go on to launch her own equine holistic therapy business after that.

Kim has combined the course with bringing up three girls nine-year-old twins Sophie and Jorja (corrct) and 11 year old Millie.

Kim said gained a distinction for a module on behaviour which demonstrated how horses responded well to reiki therapy when they were nervous about being saddled.

The horses responded really well and the difference was quite noticeable. When I got the grades back, I'd got a distinction which was great. Hopefully after my degree I'll be able to start my own business.
