Broomfield Hall knowledge leads to entrepreneurial business

Knowledge gained whilst studying at Derby College Group’s Broomfield Hall is “100%” helping retailer Mitch Gent to grow his Nottinghamshire-based equine products business.

Mitch, who is 23 and from Pinxton, started the company, Manor Equestrian, with two friends while studying for his Level 3 qualification in Equine Management at Broomfield Hall.

A rider since his early teens, he enrolled on the Level 2 Horse Care course straight from school, then progressed to Level 3.

While still at college, Mitch started selling equine products on a local market stall.

With his business partners, he then went on to establish Manor Equestrian.

Trading online and from an outlet near Eastwood, the business sells everything from tack and grooming products to riding hats and competition wear.

It also has trade stands at county shows around the country and at big international equestrian events such as Burghley Horse Trials.

Mitch said he loved studying at Broomfield Hall college, where he got the chance to ride every day and received coaching from top professional riders.

One of the highlights of his Level 3 course was a jumps clinic run by international show jumping coach Denis Flannelly.

The knowledge I gained while on my courses at Broomfield Hall, has helped me, 100%. I’m often asked for horse care advice by customers and I’m able to help them, thanks to what I learned at Derby College. We find that people really value good advice.
